When you pick a De Colțești aged cheese off the shelf, the label tells you the basics: Romanian milk, rennet, salt, maybe some truffles, caraway, or chili. It's correct, it's legal, but it's incomplete.
On a piece of paper of a few square centimeters, there is no way to cram in the reality that actually gives that product its taste. You cannot write about the sun, the foggy mornings at the foot of the Trascău mountains, or the people who do the hard work, day in and day out. So we decided to write here what doesn't fit on the packaging.
The cows are not ours
Online, brands often want to appear as if they do everything perfectly, from A to Z. We prefer to say it directly: we do not have our own farm. And we are proud of that.
The milk we transform into our aged cheeses comes from local farmers in the Trascău area. We work with hardworking people in our community, people who don't keep their animals in industrial confinement, but let them graze freely in pastures. The diverse flora that the cows consume, the clean mountain air, and the natural rhythm of the place transfer directly into the quality of the milk. Basically, they bring us the cleanest ingredient possible, and our duty is not to ruin what nature has already made perfect.
The invisible engine: The sun
Making traditional dairy products does not mean living in the past and rejecting innovation, especially when that innovation protects the very place you call "home."
We chose to invest in solar panels and use green energy to support a good part of our production. We didn't do it to look good in some corporate sustainability report. We did it because it's the only logical, common-sense way to do business here. If you take extraordinary milk from an ecosystem, you are obligated to give back respect. Today, the sun keeps our factory running, and time perfects our taste.
No shortcuts
In a food industry obsessed with huge volumes and delivery speed, we chose to operate on a different time zone. One where a piece of cheese sits on wooden shelves for months, in silence, until it is truly ready.
We don't add magic powders, we don't rush the aging process, and we don't make compromises when demand increases. The meeting of green innovation, clean pasture-fed milk, and the patience of craftsmanship is the only recipe we know.
This autumn, when you open a De Colțești cheese alongside a glass of good wine, remember that you are not just savoring a dairy product. You are savoring the work of an entire community, the clean energy of the sun, and a time that we chose not to rush.
There are places in Romania where time seems to have a different patience, and nature dictates the rhythm of life. One such place lies at the foothills of the Trascău Mountains, known as the place where the sun rises twice. This is not just a spectacular optical illusion that attracts thousands of tourists, but the very heart of our brand, a place of stories and a truly beautiful location. This is where our motto, which we honor every day, originated: "Fairytale dairy from fairytale places."
The secret to the taste: Nature and fresh air
When you savor a slice of our cheese, you are actually tasting a piece of this landscape. The lush pastures and clean mountain air directly influence the quality of the milk. Good cheese begins in the field, in the quiet of the valleys, where animals graze in a natural environment, far from the hustle and pollution of big cities. This harmony with nature transfers directly into the texture and flavor of every product that leaves our factory.
Made by people, not robots
In an increasingly automated world, we believe that real food needs a soul. Our products have been carefully developed and defined as a business over the years.
Our cheeses are not made using artificial intelligence. They are produced by hardworking people who have families, most of whom are from right here in the area, near Alba County.
Our team is made up of people who truly believe in the work they do and do it very well.
Products of childhood, present on today's tables
When we say De Colțești (or Torockoi, the name behind our story), we take pride in those authentic products that have accustomed you to quality over time:
Authentic sour cream: We are talking about that good, true sour cream that you have found on store shelves and in your homes for years.
Apuseni cheese: A cheese loved by all generations, from children to the elderly.
Local values, national mission
We strongly believe in local businesses. Like many other domestic businesses, we face various constraints and challenges, but our primary desire is to bring good products to the market for Romanians. For us, success is not measured only in numbers, but in the values that define us:
We value fairness and integrity in our relationships with people above all else.
We are guided by mutual respect and believe in the ability of people to grow alongside us.
Thank you for all your appreciation, for encouraging us, supporting our products, and standing by us! Next time you enjoy our dairy products, we invite you to think of the Trascău Mountains. And, why not, we look forward to welcoming you to visit the Colțești area, to see that double sunrise with your own eyes, and to feel the magic of the place!
In a world that seems to be in an ever-increasing rush, we, at De Colțești, have chosen to maintain the steady pace you have become accustomed to. At the foothills of the Trascău Mountains, beneath the gaze of the Piatra Secuiului, time is still measured in patience, and quality is achieved without shortcuts.
For over 30 years, our family has brought to your tables carefully aged cheeses and feta made "the way it should be." However, because we know how much it matters to have clean food even on busy mornings or when you are always on the go, we decided it was time to take a new step.
That is how our new trio of fresh products was born, a natural extension of our heritage: Yogurt, Sana, and Kefir.
More than a snack. A longing for home.
When we created these products, we wanted to encapsulate in a bottle that exact feeling of peace from the good old days. We set out to offer you an escape into nature with every sip, a taste to remind you of simple things made from the heart. Because, as we like to say, this goodness is not just milk - it is the longing for home.
What makes these products truly special?
100% Romanian milk: We work with the same local farmers in the Apuseni area whom we have known for decades. Simple people who have a deep respect for the land and their animals.
Clean recipe, no compromises: We have not changed any of our principles. We have used natural ingredients, maintaining the simplicity that defines us.
The ideal percentage – 3% fat: Whether you choose Yogurt, Sana, or Kefir, we have kept a 3% fat level. It is the perfect balance for an incredibly creamy, rich, and satiating texture.
Bottle format: We packaged them so you can take them with you anywhere. They are your dose of pure energy for breakfast, for a quick break at the office, or for an outing in the fresh air.
Which one do you start your day with?
The morning dilemma has just become much more delicious. Whether you prefer the classic balance of Yogurt, the velvety texture specific to Sana, or the slightly tangy and refreshing taste of Kefir, you have the guarantee of the same De Colțești standard of excellence.
We know it’s hard to stop at just one, so we encourage you to test them all and tell us which one has become your favorite.
The De Colțești product family now awaits you directly in our online store. We invite you to bring the freshness of the mountains straight to your fridge.

Minunat!
Gustul copilariei. Foarte gustos.
Foarte bun
foarte gustos ,unt adevarat !
Textura, gust excelent!
